Find Affordable Auto Insurance with Free Insurance Quotes

Mar 21, 2010Stacey Abler

All states require that drivers carry liability auto insurance on their vehicles. many states will have minimum requirements for the amount of auto insurance coverage that must be carried. Drivers can get free insurance quotes online and shop for affordable auto insurance from the comfort of their own home.

Find a Reputable Auto Insurance Company

When insuring the vehicle, it is important to use an auto insurance company that has a history of being a sound and reputable company. Well known names should be fine. If in doubt, check with the state insurance commissioner and the better Business Bureau. there are likely local agents for many of the companies in the local vicinity that can be called for auto insurance rates as well.

Online Car Insurance Advantage

Most people are busy and do not have hours to call or visit local auto insurance agents to obtain auto insurance quotes. with an online auto insurance company, most have the option to shop for auto insurance rates online. some online auto insurance companies will even compare auto insurance rates from other companies. By filling out a simple form and entering information about the vehicle, an auto insurance quote can be obtained within a matter of minutes.

Be careful with completing multiple auto insurance quote applications at different companies. many companies will now pull a credit report for applicants. Multiple inquiries on a credit report can reflect poorly on the credit report and may even lower the credit score. use one service that compares auto insurance quotes with other companies and then decide based on that information which company to further pursue.

Be honest on Auto Insurance Applications

The auto insurance company will still pull a driver history the same as a local agent will before issuing an auto policy. Be upfront about any accidents or traffic citations that have occurred in the last five to seven years, with the amount of time depending on the auto insurance company.

Accurately represent how much the car is driven and who the primary driver of the car will be. A car that is not used very often can garner a lower auto insurance quote than a car that is driven many miles per day.

When an acceptable and affordable auto insurance quote has been found, do not delay in paying the premium to begin the policy. with many auto insurance companies, there is a certain time frame from getting an auto insurance rate that the policy must be executed. Do not let the savings go for procrastination. Finding auto insurance rates online can be a more convenient way to shop for auto insurance quotes. Save time and possibly money on the next auto insurance policy by shopping auto insurance companies online.

  1. The other person (if they are at fault) has to fix your car (their insurance does).

You have to file a report with DMV (if in California) if the damage is over a certain amount. Look this up on the DMV web page. There is a form there you have to complete.

Don’t settle with the insurance company unless you get fully compensated (get the car fix). Don’t let them intimidate you because you did not have insurance.

If you have bodily injuries, see a doctor.

As far as not having insurance ? I think you can get in trouble for that. I am not sure what the penalties are.

  2. did not say anything but might but state might catch it later

if your required to have it might lose right as to drive and large fine my state is 1000 bucks no insurance and caugh an d250 bucks to get lic back.. and should be able to if not sue

  3. You could have received a ticket for failure to carry insurance. Count yourself lucky that you didn’t. find out what it will cost to repair your car, and contact the insurance company of the at fault driver and make a claim. You won’t have your own insurance to help you through the process. Of course you should also make sure you now have valid insurance, even though it won’t help you for this one.

  4. I’ve had this happen before. It doesn’t matter if you had insurance or not, or if it is legal or not in your state. I just called my expired insurance provider, reported the accident to them and renewed my insurance at the same time. let them know it was not your fault. let your insurance provider you just renewed with investigate, and ask them what to do about your situation. definitely tell your insurance provider that you have a police report and you will be fine. ask them about your DMV obligations, and they will say they will appraise the damage to your vehicle and go from there.

I’ve been hit by a man without insurance, it was his fault, and he subsequently purchased insurance and let them handle it with my insurance. I’ve been hit, it wasn’t not my fault, and had not renewed my insurance. I just called my insurance, told them I was hit, I had a police report showing it was the other driver’s fault, they renewed my expired policy & took care of everything.

I have no sources to cite; this is from experience. I’ve found when dealing with a situation like yours, time is of the essence. You need to do what I did: get in touch with your old provider right away. the saying that applies in this situation is: “Ain’t nothin’ to do but to do it!”

  5. You can start off by getting insured immediately, then let your insurers know about the accident, specifying that you have a police report and that if was the other person’s fault.

Factory orders rise for 10th time in 11 months

March 31st, 2010 Comments Off Posted in commercial auto insurance

WASHINGTON -Factory orders rose in February, bolstered by strong demand for industrial machinery and commercial aircraft. It was the 10th increase in 11 months as manufacturing continues to provide crucial support for the nation’s economic recovery.

“We’re not a red-hot economy,” said Tim Quinlan, an economist at Wells Fargo. “But the recovery is still plodding along.”

Manufacturers, which were hit hard by the recession, are benefiting from overseas orders and increased business spending on capital equipment. Quinlan estimates that factory orders fell by about 25 percent during the recession but have recovered about one-third of that amount since last spring.

The Commerce Department said Wednesday that new orders rose 0.6 percent last month, just ahead of analysts’ estimates for a 0.5 percent increase, according to Thomson Reuters. still, that was the lowest uptick since August 2009.

January’s orders also were revised higher to show an increase of 2.5 percent, the department said.

Separately, a private company’s report on payrolls Wednesday disappointed Wall Street analysts. Payroll provider ADP said that employers cut 23,000 jobs in March, well below economists’ forecasts for a 40,000 gain.

Stocks were mixed after the data, which comes before Friday’s employment report by the Labor Department. The Dow Jones industrial average fell about 21 points in midday trading though some broader indices ticked up.

In the factory orders report, economists were encouraged by a 2 percent rise in orders for capital goods such as computers and machinery following a sharp drop in January. that means businesses have started to increase their investment spending, economists said.

In addition, inventories rose by 0.5 percent last month, the fourth increase in the past five months and better than the 0.3 percent rise seen in January.

Auto makers and other manufacturers cut their stockpiles sharply during the recession, and rebuilding stockpiles will help fuel the recovery. larger inventories also would indicate that companies are confident about future sales.

Still, inventories aren’t growing as quickly as many economists would like.

“That suggests to me that firms are still cautious about their sales outlook,” said Zach Pandl, an economist at Nomura Securities. He would like to see inventories increase at closer to a 1 percent pace.

Businesses reduced their stockpiles at a much slower pace in the final three months of last year, compared with the rapid drawdowns during the recession. that swing contributed about two-thirds of the fourth-quarter’s economic growth. The gross domestic product increased by 5.6 percent in the fourth quarter, the fastest pace in six years.

Orders for big-ticket manufactured items, known as durable goods, also rose 0.6 percent in February, slightly higher than a preliminary estimate released last week. Machinery orders jumped 5.1 percent, driven by higher demand for heating and air conditioning equipment and turbines and other power generation gear.

Orders for commercial aircraft, a volatile category, jumped nearly 33 percent last month. But the auto industry continued to struggle, with orders for motor vehicles and parts falling by 1.7 percent, the second consecutive drop.

Nondurable goods, such as chemicals, food products and apparel, rose 0.3 percent, a healthier showing than many economists expected. Chemical orders, particularly of pesticides and fertilizers, as well as food products, led the increase.

Tackling tobacco would improve state’s health

March 31st, 2010 Comments Off Posted in affordable auto insurance

Health care reform starts at home — in the practical, everyday happenings of daily life. in Oklahoma we know our health issues — and tobacco use is a major obstacle in our state. It’s the most preventable cause of death and disease in the United States, and kills more Oklahomans than alcohol, auto accidents, AIDS, suicides, murders and illegal drugs combined.

Tobacco usage adds tremendously to the cost of health care. Every pack of cigarettes sold in our state costs Oklahoma’s economy $7.62 in medical expenses and lost productivity due to premature death and disease. The rising cost of health care affects us all, and prices many consumers and small businesses out of the health insurance market. The Insure Oklahoma health insurance premium assistance program helps small businesses offer affordable health coverage to their employees. The program’s sole sources of funding are proceeds from a tobacco tax passed by state voters in 2004 and resulting federal matching dollars. These funds pay up to 60 percent of eligible workers’ health care premiums. this is a step in the right direction, but more needs to be done. The Oklahoma State plan for Tobacco Use Prevention and Cessation has the goal of reducing Oklahoma’s tobacco use rates to the national average by 2012. That means dropping the number of Oklahoma tobacco users by 200,000. Most tobacco users in Oklahoma are trying to quit. It’s critical that we do all we can to support their efforts. One key to success is to make smoking inconvenient. The simplest way to do that — and reduce public exposure to secondhand smoke — is by following the lead of 29 other states and adopting smoke-free workplace laws, including all bars and restaurants. Two-thirds of Americans live where all restaurants are 100 percent smoke-free and more than half live where all bars are 100 percent smoke-free.State Rep. Kris Steele, R-Shawnee, recently introduced the clean Air in Restaurants Act. this bill takes an important step to address the health hazards of secondhand smoke by authorizing the Health Department to use existing funding to rebate restaurants for a portion of costs spent to build smoking rooms if they convert to a completely smoke-free environment by Jan. 1, 2013.Steele deserves credit for moving us closer to where we need to be. Smoke-free environments protect workers from secondhand smoke, remove tobacco use from public sight, encourage quitting, change mindsets, and teach our children that tobacco use isn’t “normal.”As Oklahomans, it’s our duty to own our health and take responsibility for it outside of federal health care reform. We have the power to enact real, substantive change to improve the health of our state. We have a local outlook and can see the issues we face day to day. Improving health care doesn’t have to be above our heads, in a sweeping motion that affects every part of the country equally. We have local issues that need local resolutions. Let’s begin with tobacco use — and let’s start at home.Marshall is president of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma and is a member of the Oklahoma Alliance on Health or Tobacco. Looming court case could threaten auto insurance stability – advocate

March 31st, 2010 Comments Off Posted in auto insurance

Auto insurance rates in New Brunswick are stable, says Ronald Godin, New Brunswick’s consumer advocate for insurance.

But a looming court challenge to the minor injury cap could change that, said the insurance industry.

“The overall rate reduction for all companies writing private passenger automobile insurance in the province went down by one per cent for 2009,” Godin said in his annual report on insurance released Tuesday.

“It was the fifth consecutive year of rate reductions for private passenger automobiles, bringing the average rate at $751.”

He said his office handled 1,338 calls in 2009 versus 1,309 in 2008. The number related to automobiles last year was 59.64 per cent, compared to 81 per cent of cases five years ago.

“The average rate has gone from $1,040 in 2005 to $751 in 2009,” said Godin.

He said the availability and affordability of automobile insurance in New Brunswick is no longer an issue for drivers with clean records.

But Godin said the pending court challenge to the minor-injury cap could have serious consequences for consumers.

“The minor-injury cap legislation in New Brunswick continued to come under attack in 2009, especially by the New Brunswick branch of the Canadian Bar Association and some individuals who sustained serious injuries as a result of car accidents,” he said.

Godin said a similar cap in Nova Scotia and Alberta both survived court challenges.

The Tory government in 2003 introduced a $2,500 cap on pain and suffering related to minor injuries to try to drive down claims and soaring insurance premiums.

“The insurance industry says it is only logical that if we have to pay out more in claims, we would have to increase premiums,” said Godin.

The lawyers said industry profits could cover the increase in claims, he said.

A government study several years ago said removing the cap would increase premiums here by $200 to $250 a year, said Godin.

He said he doesn’t know who is right and he isn’t recommending that the cap be reviewed.

“No one wants to touch it,” said Godin. “Everyone is afraid what it would do.”

But Nova Scotia is reviewing it with industry and public input, he said.

Bill Adams, vice-president of the Atlantic region for the Insurance Bureau of Canada, said New Brunswick is the envy of the rest of the country when it comes to auto insurance.

“It is hard to tell New Brunswickers that because they don’t believe,” he said Tuesday.

“But they have an excellent auto insurance system … it provides great benefits at some of the lowest average premiums in the country.”

He said the government reforms, including the cap, the insurance consumer advocate and a board that reviews rates, that were introduced in 2003 worked.

Adams said the cap on payment for minor injuries doesn’t prevent access to medical benefits and compensation for economic loss such as time off from a job.

“If claims costs increase then premiums will follow,” he said about the possibility of the minor injury cap being struck down in a court challenge.

MileMeter: Car Insurance Company Offers Premiums Based on Miles Driven

March 31st, 2010 Comments Off Posted in affordable auto insurance

Published: Tue 30 Mar 2010

Wendy Blair

Who are better drivers: men or women? On one end of the stereotype spectrum, some contend that men have natural driving skills and are far better at parking. On the other end, some argue that women are more cautious and less reckless behind the wheel.

Government figures show the truth-men and women have the same number of accidents per million miles driven. Driving myths and stereotypes recognize only that men tend to have more car accidents but overlook why-men drive more miles per year on average than women. that fact accounts for the higher accident rate among men than that of female drivers of the same age group.

In spite of the relevance of the number of miles driven to collision involvement, auto insurers charge adult men and women the same annual car insurance premiums, which means that women, on average, pay more per mile to insure their vehicles than men do.

Low-Mileage Discrimination

Of course, car insurance discrimination doesn’t just apply to women; it affects anyone who drives fewer than the average number of miles driven per year. the only way to stop auto insurance discrimination against women and other low-mileage drivers is to charge rates on a per-mile basis according to individual odometer readings.

MileMeter, an auto insurance company in Texas, is the first insurer to do exactly that by charging per-mile rates to the number of miles reflected on the odometers of individual vehicles, thereby guaranteeing rate parity for men and women. As a matter of fact, MileMeter is the only insurer in the U.S. to offer pay-by-the-mile car insurance without requiring the installation of vehicle-tracking devices that compromise privacy. Each insured mile is purchased in advance, tacked on to the odometer, and customers purchase additional miles online as needed. Per-mile premiums are only based on ZIP code, driver age, and vehicle type, allowing policyholders to finish the online auto insurance quote process in as few as five minutes.

An Equitable System

“MileMeter seeks to provide coverage for drivers in a fair, affordable manner,” explained Chris Gay, MileMeter CEO and president. “Drivers should be in control of what they pay, instead of relying on coverage rates determined by things beyond their control like gender.”

“For decades, auto insurance companies have been using stereotypes as proxies for group average miles instead of using each car’s odometer to measure miles driven exactly,” explained Dr. Patrick Butler, the director of the National Organization for Women’s (NOW) Insurance Project. “NOW is gratified that MileMeter is the first insurance company to stop pitting driver groups-especially women and men-against each other.”

Typical auto insurance companies overcharge policyholders who drive the fewest miles annually, especially female drivers, elderly drivers, and low-income drivers. On average, female policyholders drive approximately 6,000 miles fewer than their male counterparts in one year, yet they pay almost twice as much for insurance per mile.

MileMeter’s pay-by-the-mile pricing has the potential to save drivers 25-75 percent on typical auto insurance policies. Female car owners can expect to save an average of $200 annually.
