An alliance of road safety advocates have come together to form the Partnership for Advancing Road Safety, or PARS. The purpose is to increase awareness of road safety guidelines to reduce accidents and fatalities. moreover, making our roads safer to drive will help to bring down costs of auto insurance for motorists. The PARS is organization that drivers can feel good about.
With the increase in traffic violations and accidents, many states throughout the country and Canada have put road safety cameras into place. PARS plans to incorporate traffic safety through technology and express how it can improve driving behavior. through implementation of safety initiatives PARS hopes to:
- Prevent running through red lights
- Deter speeding
- Reduce distracted driving
PARS plan for Making Roads Safer
PARS plans to use education efforts and law enforcement strategies to send the message to drivers about following road safety. their focus is to create safer drivers and penalize bad driving behavior to avoid accidents. Collisions caused from speeding and ignorance to traffic laws costs millions of dollars each year for:
- Health care
- Property damage
- Auto insurance claims
Speeding and running through red lights account for the biggest threats to drivers as well as pedestrians. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that speeding has caused as many fatal accidents as drunk drivers. National Safety Council reported over 10,000 deaths last year that were contributed from intersection crashes. Traffic violations continue to be an increasing problem throughout the U.S. for causing accidents and raising auto insurance premiums. This proves the need for further strategies to make our roads safer for drivers and save lives.
Automated Road Safety Cameras Influence Road Safety
The enforcement of road safety cameras at intersections has proven to be effective in reducing crashes by 50%. Research indicates that 80% of motorists support the road safety cameras at traffic lights, and 67% are supporting more speed safety cameras. These road safety cameras not only reduce the number of red-light runners and speeders, they help save lives.
The prevention of accidents and crash-related injuries is certain to bring the numbers down for auto insurance rates. PARS is willing to work and partner with anyone who wants to support improving road safety including:
- Law enforcement agencies
- Government officials
- Crash victims
- Public and private organizations
- Auto insurance agencies
PARS has partnered with the National Safety Council on taking measures to provide defensive driver training and education about road safety. Insurance companies are also supporting PARS and working with the National Safety Council. As incentives for taking the NSC courses, drivers are offered great discounts and long-term savings on their auto insurance. In fact, drivers who take state certified courses that teach the importance of road safety can even have points reduced from their driving records. That’s certainly worth brushing up on traffic regulations.
As a driver, wouldn’t you feel better getting where you need to go and knowing that more drivers are practicing road safety? What if you have kids that you tote around frequently? does that encourage you to take preventative steps by driving more defensively? you can make a difference in the driving behaviors of other motorists. Drivers and volunteer victims can help support the efforts being made to raise road safety awareness.
